What dry cat food do you feed your diabetic cat?
I have three cats...one of which is diabetic. I have to feed them all the same food, & they sometimes get upset bellies or hairballs, so it needs to be a dry food so the puke is easier to clean up. I currently feed Purina DM. My cat's diabetes is controlled solely by his diet. Recently I've been looking into the ingredients in Purina DM, and I'm disgusted. I want to switch his food, but I'm unsure which would be the best switch.
I'm leaning toward EVO or Blue Buffalo Wilderness. Does anyone feed these to their diabetic cat? If not, what do you feed? Thanks!!
Purina DM is crap. My vet tried to get me to feed this to my diabetic cat.
I did a lot of research, and found that dry food is one of the main causes of diabetes. Cats cannot digest carbohydrates, especially corn. I really believe that grains are the worst thing you can feed a cat.
I feed my cats EVO, Wellness (grain free only), and Fancy Feast (grain free only). I prefer the EVO and Wellness, but I live in a rural area and have to mail order them. I fill in with the Fancy Feast when waiting for a delivery. I don't have any experience with Blue Buffalo.
Since I have changed my cat's diet, his diabetes is in remission. He was well controlled on 1 unit a day for a year, but I have since weaned him off. His last BG was 97 (after eating), so I'm very happy. My vet has finally stopped arguing with me about feeding him, since what I am doing seems to be working!
My diabetic cat is 14, and I have a 5 month kitten who also only eats canned food.
