Why is being fat publicly accepted?
Right now 70% of adults and 35% of children in America are overweight, and roughly half of those are obese having a body mass index of over 30. As long as people in this country continue to publicly accept fat people into society as equals this number will only rise.
People have no problem pointing out someones smoking, drug and drinking habits and the ugliness that usually follows such behavior, but let someone point out the fact that Ms. Piggy, Fat Albert, and their two elephant sized kids should cut down on the big macs - they're made to feel like a cruel and sadistic outcast. Sure they're setting themselves up for heart disease, diabetes and a ton of other health problems, but the important thing is we don't hurt anybody's feelings...right?
Your right about hurting feelings. FAT people cost society $$$$$ in additional medical problems we pay for through insurance. The insurance companied made a half-hearted attemp to provide fitness or stay well programs to reduce medical expenses. They really dont care cause they can always raise the rates. Whats better: 10% or 1,000 or 10% of 1,500? They make more profit when they raise the rates! Most FAT people are too lazy to get in shape and they pay and we pay. But its like drinking. How many people drink too much? TOO MANY!!!
And maybe being too fat cause a person to miss out on lots of fun things they they can't do cause their fat.
YOU or I cannot solve the problem. The ONLY solice is to think about how they are suffering too. The fat kids will find a tougher road to happiness and good health.
