Has anyone else had similar treatments for Diabetic Retinopathy/Diabetic Macular Edema...what was the outcome?

I am currently undergoing treatment for both PDR and DME. I am receiving Avastin injections, Steroid injections and Focal laser. They are planning to do a vitrectomy this fall. I have already had 2 vitrectomies in my other eye. Has anyone experienced these kind of treatments and what were the results. My doc says that my R eye is very fragile right now. Basically I could blink and that could be it. Has anyone lost vision or is now in a low vision capacity with advice. How can I start to prepare for life as someone with low vision or has gone blind? Also in regards to the vitrectomy, has anyone had it done under local anaesthesia?

I have not had laser done for more than 20 years, so I'm sure it's changed, but I did have a good outcome.

I am mainly writing to say that I think you should check the message boards at the American Diabetes Association website, because there will be a lot more diabetics there who've gone through this. It's www.diabetes.org

I am curious about the vitrectomies because I might have to have that one day. Why did you have to have them done? You can email me through my avatar if you like.
