I have diabetes and I wear a rubber bracelet for softball but an ump made me take it off?
I was told by every ump and ref at every game it is fine, now this one says i cant wear it and my mom is pissed. Am I or am I not aloud to wear it.?
Don't know the specifics of your league, but every umpire clinic I have gone to says, basically, "If the player wasn't born with it, it's jewelry." NFHS, the governing body for high school athletics requires that medical alert bracelets be removed and taped to the body in order to prevent the possibility of catching a finger on the bracelet. The umpire was not adhering too much to the "letter of the rule" in this case. He was trying to avoid liability issues. Because the mother who would be pissed about her child being asked to remove the bracelet for safety would be the same mother that would sue the umpire and everyone else involved if her child were injured.
